Following a drug overdose in October 2015, Lamar Odom was on death’s door. The former NBA Sixth Man of the Year and two-time NBA champion overdosed on a combination of cocaine, pills and other drugs while partying in a Nevada brothel, sending him into a brief coma. Less than two years later, following 35 days of inpatient addiction treatment, it appears that Odom is making significant progress towards a full addiction recovery.
“I wasn’t in a good place mentally before that incident happened,”he said on “The Doctors,”a television show that tracked his journey through rehab. “… I was basically committing suicide.”[2]
Odom now has set his sights on trying to win back his ex-wife, Khloe Kardashian, and rebuilding his health to the point where he can live independently and potentially play basketball again.[3]
The former all-star says that he has “conquered”treatment and that he “wants to get high off of life now.”Only time will tell how much of a changed man Odom is, but his progress in addiction recovery and improved health are encouraging.
